Texas Rangers fans were angry after their comeback attempt in extra innings ended on a controversial slide call on Monday against the Colorado Rockies.
The Texas Rangers were hoping to extend their winning streak to two on Monday with a victory over the Colorado Rockies. They were certainly close to that.
Texas was down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, but they forced extra innings after Willie Calhoun’s solo home run off Daniel Bard. Colorado took a 6-4 lead in the top of the 10th, after an RBI single by Jose Iglesias and a solo home run by Connor Joe.
In the bottom of the frame, the Rangers had two runners on base, and Adolis Garcia appeared to be hitting into a double play, but Brendan Rodgers’ throw to first baseman C.J. Cron was wild. The umpiring crew reviewed the play, and determined that Texas catcher Mitch Garver had illegally slid into Rodgers, thus giving the Rockies the double play and the 6-4 win.

Rangers fans, well, did not take that call very well.
What makes the call that much more painful for the Rangers faithful is that second baseman Marcus Semien had scored a run that would have cut Colorado’s lead to 6-5. But, that was ultimately not the case due to the replay review, as they felt Garver illegally slid into Rodgers.
Rangers manager Chris Woodward said in a postgame press conference that that call did not determine them losing the game. However, Woodward did say that it was “a frustrating way to lose a game like that.”
