These are the next three New York Yankees prospects we should expect to get promoted to the big league roster.
The New York Yankees are winning a lot this season yet they may still need to call upon the cavalry to help them out at some point. It’s not unusual for even the best teams in baseball to promote some of their better prospects to the major leagues.
Regardless of how well the Yankees are playing this year, we should get a taste of some of the future. Injuries will happen. Players will underperform. Top prospects will give the front office no other option but to promote them.
In 2022, these are the next three prospects we should expect the Yankees to promote.
1) Yankees infield prospect Oswald Peraza
The Yankees have the luxury of possessing a pair of strong shortstop prospects in their system. Oswald Peraza is one of those promising young men waiting for a promotion.
Regarded as the second-best Yankees prospect behind the other shortstop, Anthony Volpe, Peraza is already in Triple-A which puts him ahead of Volpe in terms of a promotion. The Yankees may not have an imminent need at shortstop with Isaiah Kiner-Falefa presently on the club. However, an injury to him or another infielder could convince the Yankees to promote Peraza.
As a member of the 40-man roster, a promotion for Peraza doesn’t require anyone to necessarily get designated for assignment. This is always important when trying to figure out who will get called up next.
Working against Peraza is his slow start to the 2022 season. Would the front office really promote a guy hitting around the Mendoza Line? It’s going to take a hotter bat from him for New York to decide it’s Peraza time.
