Yelich began the day with a ground-rule double in the top of the first inning off of Reds pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez. Then in his very next at-bat in the third, Yelich hit a three-run homer to left field to put Milwaukee on the board. Yet, they trailed 7-3 after his opposite field home run.
In the fifth, Yelich hit a single to center field. That was followed up by the aforementioned triple in the ninth to secure the cycle.
Even after the star outfielder’s tremendous performance, it was not enough to give Milwaukee the win, as Cincinnati picked up the 14-11 victory. That is now the seventh-win of the season for the Reds.
With this loss, Milwaukee officially loses this series against Cincinnati. The next time the Brewers play the Reds is on June 17 for another three-game set. We shall see if Yelich will be able to record yet another cycle against his NL Central rivals.
