Joc Pederson, Tommy Pham have to be separated in pregame altercation [Video]

Ahead of the San Francisco Giants-Cincinnati Reds game on May 27, Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham had to be separated by their teammates.

The San Francisco Giants are beginning their road trip in Cincinnati, as they take on the Reds for a three-game series. On Friday, May 27, before the game even started, there was an incident between both teams.

Both teams were spotted having a pull-apart in left field during batting practice, and it was revealed that Joc Pederson of the Giants and Tommy Pham of the Reds had to be separated.

According to the Associated Press, Pham confronted Pederson in the outfield, which led to both teams convening to separate the two. No punches were thrown.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said that he is aware of the incident but that he has no comments since they are still investigating it. You can listen to Kapler’s comments in the video below provided by the SF Giants on NBC Sports Twitter account.

UPDATE: According to The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans and Andrew Baggarly, Pham slapped Pederson in their altercation during batting practice. As to what led to the incident, multiple sources told The Athletic that the beef between the two was caused by a disagreement in a fantasy football league group text which included players from other teams.

Rosecrans and Baggarly also write that the Giants asked for Pham to be removed from the lineup. Pham agreed to be sit out until MLB concludes their investigation into the incident.
