There are three 2021 Chicago Cubs who are failing miserably elsewhere.
The Chicago Cubs on Opening Day 2021 were a very different from the team that they had at the end of the season.
After all, they completely dismantled the team. They made eight trades between July 15 and the trade deadline so they were wheeling and dealing to dismantle their team. Of the players that they traded, nearly all of them were former All-Stars and many of them were keys to their 2016 World Series championship team.
All of those players are on different teams and seeing differing degrees of success. Today, we will look at three players that played on the 2021 Cubs that are failing miserably elsewhere.
1. Former Cub and current Detroit Tigers infielder Javier Báez
The Chicago Cubs traded Javier Báez to the New York Mets before the trade deadline last season and he left his new team for free agency after the 2021 season.
Báez, though, signed with the Detroit Tigers on a six-year deal for $140 million. The problem is that Báez has been a huge reason why the Tigers have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball and one of the worst teams in baseball.
As FanSided’s Mark Powell examined in this article last week, Báez has been one of the worst, if not the worst, offensive players in the sport this year.
He has warmed up a lot in the last week or so but he is still only hitting .217/.258/.374 with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 60 games. He has an OPS+ of 82, or 18 percent below league average and his WAR is 0.7.
