The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball but they still could look to make some trades before the trade deadline. Here are three division rivals they should trade for right now
The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball but they also play in the best division in baseball. Four of the five teams in the American League East are above .500 and the only team that isn’t above .500 (the Baltimore Orioles) has the best record for any last place team in the sport at 36-42.
Therefore, there aren’t many teams for them to trade within their division. But there are still three divisional that the Yankees should trade for right now.
New York Yankees: 3 division rival trade targets
Austin Hays
OF, Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays
In 2022, Austin Hays has been the best offensive player for the Baltimore Orioles after having a good year in 2021.
This season, Hays has played in 73 games and he has hit .275/.331/.468 with 11 home runs, 45 RBI, 19 doubles, and an OPS+ of 130. Defensively, he has primarily played left field and right field but he has played a pair of games in center field as well but he has been best in left field (3 DRS).
For the Yankees to get him, though, they will have to give up a ton to get him for one huge reason: controllability. He will not be a free agent until after the 2025 season. However, with Joey Gallo and Aaron Judge both becoming free agents, Hays could be a backup option for the Yankees if they think that they can’t re-sign Judge.
