The Chicago White Sox recently lost veteran Tim Anderson due to injury, but they may have a great replacement on the way.
The Chicago White Sox recently lost their veteran shortstop Tim Anderson to a ligament tear in his hand. However, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, shortstop Elvis Andrus is signing with the White Sox tomorrow.
Andrus made his MLB debut in 2009 and played for the Texas Rangers until 2021 when he joined the Oakland Athletics. He’s hitting slightly worse than Anderson, but he’d be a good immediate replacement considering his consistency and time in the league.
Anderson hit .301/.339/.395 for an OPS of .734 before his injury. This season, Andrus is hitting .237/.301/.373 for an OPS of .674.
Elvis Andrus is a good and affordable option for the Chicago White Sox
Though there are several shortstops entering free agency after this season that are better, Andrus was immediately available and affordable. He was recently released from the Athletics and replaced by a Triple-A player.
Andrus is only owed $700K for the year and will likely be much happier with the White Sox. The Athletics cut his playing time, and he made his negative feelings clear.
According to Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle, Andrus stated, “Everybody knows I’m an everyday player. So doing this, it’s not fun for me. Of course I’m upset, I’m [angry] about it. But like I said, the best I can do is stay positive and wait for my turn and be ready whatever happens.”
Andrus will finally get the playing time he wants, and he will be helping Chicago in the meantime.
