Free agent pitcher Carlos Martinez is suspended for 85 games under MLB’s domestic violence policy. This is served in addition to the 80 he is currently suspended for.
Free agent MLB pitcher Carlos Martinez has been suspended for 85 games “for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy,” according to MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided.
Martinez’s suspension is in addition to the 80 days he’s currently under for PED use. It’s unclear exactly what Martinez did, but he received the fifth-longest suspension MLB has given since the beginning of the policy in 2015.
Martinez’s once-promising career is likely over following two major suspensions.
Carlos Martinez likely won’t have a future in MLB
The once-promising pitcher likely will see an end to his career following the suspensions considering the major circumstances. He made his MLB debut in 2013 with the St. Louis Cardinals and played every season of his career with them until 2021.
This season, he signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants. He was then released and signed another with the Boston Red Sox. Boston released him just 10 days after signing him and he began his PED suspension shortly after.
His performance went downhill the past few years amid injuries, and now he’s not likely to be signed with a PED suspension and domestic violence suspension to his name. Though it’s unclear what he did, the length of his DV suspension suggests it was something very serious.
