These three New York Yankees players have proven they should be nowhere near the team’s postseason roster.
Despite the “collapse” the New York Yankees are going through, they’re going to find themselves in the postseason. They will probably even get a first-round bye and secure the No. 2 seed.
The bigger worry for Yankees fans is what they can do after actually getting into the postseason. Is this another year where they bounce out early?
Putting together the best possible roster is one task that lies ahead for the battered Yankees hoping to get guys back on the field and healthy as soon as possible.
1) Yankees postseason roster should not include Oswaldo Cabrera in any way
The Yankees are putting Oswaldo Cabrera out in right field often these days. A switch they needed to pull because of growing injuries to other players, he is clearly nothing more than a temporary solution to a growing problem for this Yankees team.
New York has had outfield questions from the start of the season. Giancarlo Stanton’s inability to play the outfield regularly already put them in a tight corner. It has been Aaron Judge’s ability and willingness to play center field well that has saved them in more ways than one.
Cabrera, a temporary answer in right field, is about getting by. Once Andrew Benintendi comes back, it would make sense to send Cabrera back to the minors. Cabrera’s early struggles with the team haven’t built up anyone’s confidence in what he can do for the club moving forward.
While we shouldn’t completely write him off as a future outfielder for this team to maybe even hopefully replace Aaron Hicks, he’s not someone anyone wants to see on the postseason roster.
