New York Yankees starting pitcher Frankie Montas is getting tests done on his right shoulder and may miss time.
The New York Yankees made the move to acquire one of the top starting pitchers at the trade deadline in Frankie Montas. One of the teams linked to Montas was the St. Louis Cardinals.
Montas’ stint with the Yankees has not gotten off the start fans had imagined, and that was evident with his latest start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sept. 16. In that game, Montas surrendered four earned runs on four hits, struck out two batters, and allowed four walks in 3.1 innings of work.
Less than a day after the game, it has been reported by multiple outlets that Montas is undergoing an MRI on his right shoulder after feeling discomfort.

Montas dealt with right shoulder issues earlier this year. As MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch points out, the right-handed pitcher was sidelined from July 3-21. It will remain to be seen how much time, if any, Montas will miss.
The Yankees made the trade to bolster their starting rotation for the postseason. Since arriving, Montas has struggled and has not lived up to the hype set by fans and media alike.
Through eight starts with the Yankees, Montas has recorded a 6.35 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and 15 walks in 39.2 innings.
The Cardinals, who were quite obviously looking for starting pitching at the deadline, made the move for Jose Quintana and then struck a deal with the Yankees for Jordan Montgomery. Quintana has put up solid numbers with the Cardinals (2.44 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, but Montgomery has been gold for the Cardinals.
Through eight starts, Montgomery has posted a 2.05 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, a 5-1 record, 44 strikeouts, and nine walks in 48.1 innings. Not to mention that Montgomery also pitched a complete game shutout against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 22, where he surrendered just one hit.
The Yankees will hope that Montas will not miss too much time, especially with the postseason right around the corner.
