According to the New York Post, Ken Rosenthal discussed that Judge was presented with an extension but denied it.
Rosenthal stated, “He was not pleased when the Yankees announced what they offered him around Opening Day.”
New York reportedly offered him $213.5 million over seven years, so it was certainly a hefty contract. He enters free agency after this season, so the Yankees lost trust in him staying with New York for years to come.
Judge will likely be highly sought-after once he hits the market, and he’d be worth a lot, so New York will have to dish out a massive offer to keep the slugger around.
Though New York has several talented players, there’d be a huge hole left behind if Judge walked away.

Judge has been holding the Yankees together lately. Though they started off having an extremely good season, they’ve had a downfall recently, particularly over August. They won just one series that month, which was a two-game subway series against the New York Mets.
September has been slightly better with three series won, but there is still room for improvement. Amidst some downfalls, Judge has been chasing history with a goal to hit 60 homers by the end of the season.
He’s currently at 57 home runs this season, which is just four away from matching the franchise and AL East single-season record set by Roger Maris in 1961. According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, he’s on pace to hit 64 this season.
It’s understandable why the Yankees lost trust in him without taking their first offer, but he’s one of the best hitters in the league and will undoubtedly get several big offers once he hits free agency. New York needs to dish out a deal even more extravagant.
