The Chicago Cubs put together an incredible drone tour of Wrigley Field, and it’ll certainly make viewers wish they were at the “Friendly Confines.”
The roughly four-minute-long video was truly stunning and showed the culture of the park extremely well.
The video ended with the team being announced and running onto the field with cheering from the crowd. It’s one of the most beloved ballparks in the country, and it gives a very welcoming feeling.
Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, is one of the most beloved ballparks
There’s a lot of history behind Wrigley Field that makes the ballpark such a special place. It’s the second-oldest MLB ballpark still in use. Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, is the oldest. Former Cubs infielder and Hall-of-Famer Ernie Banks popularized the term “Friendly Confines” as a welcome to the field.
The park was built in 1914 and was originally named Weeghman Park. Through over a century of the ballpark being in use, many big moments have happened. Some of the history at Wrigley Field includes:
- Babe Ruth’s “called shot” during the 1932 World Series
- Ernie Banks’ 500th career home run
- Pete Rose’s 4,191st career hit
- Tom Glavine’s 300th career win
- Cubs postseason series clinch for the first time in franchise history
- Hosting the 1947, 1962 and 1990 All-Star Games
There’s certainly a magical feeling to Wrigley Field with a lot of significant history, and the beautiful drone video does a great job of encapsulating that.
