The Boston Red Sox are taking calls on Chris Sale, and the Chicago White Sox should aim to bring him back to the South Side for one big reason.
The Boston Red Sox have had a truly horrendous offseason. They failed to bring back star shortstop Xander Bogaerts, and rumors are swirling about Rafael Devers’ future in Beantown because of it. However, Devers may not be the next notable player on the move, as the Red Sox have been receiving trade calls regarding the availability of their ace, Chris Sale.
If the Red Sox are open to moving Sale, the Chicago White Sox absolutely need to make a push to bring back the seven-time All-Star. It’s been a fairly quiet offseason for the White Sox, but adding Sale to their rotation would certainly help change that. Yet, there’s one main reason why Chicago should bring Sale.
White Sox rumors: Chris Sale offers familiarity
The biggest reason why the White Sox should bring back Sale is because of the simple fact that he is a familiar face. The 6-foot-6 lefty spent the first seven years of his major league career in Chicago, and now the White Sox have the opportunity to potentially bring him back. The primary reason why the Lakeland native was moved was because of Chicago’s rebuild, but now they have World Series aspirations. This remains the case even after their rough 2022 season.
If Chicago acquires Sale and he can stay healthy, he would be such a significant addition to their rotation. He would be in the running to be their ace yet again, but he also could serve as a fantastic number-two starter if needed. Either way, the White Sox bringing back their old friend could be the move that helps them be favorites in the American League (AL) Central again.
Alas, we will have to wait and see if the Sale ends up pitching for the White Sox again from here.
