With the 2023 season right around the corner, MLB The Show has simulated the full 2023 season to predict the World Series winner, and it’s not the reigning champion Houston Astros.
The folks over at MLB The Show simulated the full 2023 season and have predicted the winner of this year’s World Series. While it’s not the 2022 champion Houston Astros, the team that won shouldn’t come as a surprise.
According to the popular video game, the Atlanta Braves are destined to take home the World Series trophy. They beat the Astros 4-2 in the simulated Fall Classic.
In reality, the Braves are considered favorites heading into the 2023 season. FanGraphs currently gives them the highest odds of winning the World Series, at 14.6%.
MLB The Show 2023 regular season results, World Series
Let’s take a look at how the simulated MLB The Show season played out over the course of 162. The Brewers squeaked out the NL Central, one game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals, who grabbed a Wild Card spot.
With the Braves winning the NL East with 103 wins, the Mets settled for Wild Card, as did the Padres behind the NL West-winning Dodgers.
Over in the American League, the White Sox took the Central. The league-best 108-win Toronto Blue Jays easily won the AL East, with the Red Sox claiming a Wild Card (gasp, no Yankees?).
The AL West sent three teams to the postseason, with the Astros winning the division and the Rangers and Angels (they made the playoffs!) nabbing Wild Cards.
How did the MLB The Show playoffs play out?
Starting in the National League, Atlanta took care of business in the Division Series, taking down the Mets 3-2, while the Dodgers blanked the Brewers 3-0 before losing out to the eventual champions 4-2 in the NLCS.
The Blue Jays got past the Red Sox 3-2 in their Division Series, and the Astros eliminated the Angels (they made the playoffs!) 3-1. Houston took care of the Jays in the ALCS with a quick 4-1 matchup.
Which players received MLB The Show awards?
After a full season of simulated MLB The Show games, there must be simulated awards. Notable individual achievements include the Mets’ Pete Alonso winning the NL MVP and the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez receiving the AL MVP. Both sluggers led their leagues in home runs and RBIs.
The Blue Jays’ Kevin Gausman topped the league with 20 wins, but the Rangers’ Jacob deGrom led with 244 strikeouts and won the AL Cy Young. Joe Musgrove of the Padres took home the NL Cy Young.
