Opening Day is right around the corner, and soon baseball fans will have something worth cheering for or grumbling at again. None of that wild March Madness hysteria in this league — instead, the MLB is full of….injuries, cuts, and contract stalemates.
In today’s slate of rumors, Phillies’ Aaron Nola takes a concerning step in the other direction in his ongoing contract saga, perhaps foreshadowing what is to come. The Braves release a veteran who may be contemplating retirement, and the Yankees deal with a tough loss as a certain player will most likely start the season on the injured list.

MLB Rumors: Braves part ways with infielder Adeiny Hechavarria
On Friday, the Atlanta Braves released infielder Adeiny Hechavarria.
The former New York Mets player played in Atlanta for 2019 and 2020 and has been somewhat of a veteran journeyman around the league; Hechavarria started his MLB career in Toronto and has spent short stints on the Marlins, Rays, Pirates, and Yankees.
Hechavarria hasn’t settled on a roster since 2020, though, and he lost out on Atlanta’s backup infielder job to Ehire Adrianza this past Spring Training.
The 34-year-old may be seriously contemplating retirement after a respectable nine-year career, slashing .292/ .353/ .475 in his last two seasons with the Braves. Hechavarria could stick around for depth should any Braves players get injured, but that’s hardly enough to warrant his stay in Atlanta.
