Jaws dropped on MLB Twitter when Reiss Knehr stops line drive with bare hand.
It’s never day you see a pitcher stop a line drive with his bare hand but that’s exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon when Padres reliever Reiss Knehr saved a run. Bob Nightengale gave a perfect play-by-play of the incident so those of us not watching the game live (shame).
“Crazy play,” he wrote. “Padres reliever Reiss Knehr saves a run by sticking out his bare hand on a line drive by [Diamondbacks] infielder Asdrubral Cabrera, which is deflected and caught in the air by shortstop Jake Cronenworth, and manages to stay in the game.”
Of course those watching live or seeing the highlight later, had some things to say about the incredible play.
At press time, Knehr didn’t appear to be injured but we’ll keep you updated if anything develops. We’re also on the hunt for a video highlight of the play which while include if/when we find it.
Check back for updates soon.
