Kevin Gausman suffers injury scare in first start since IL stint (Video)

San Francisco Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman remained in Friday night’s start against the Atlanta Braves after suffering an apparent injury.

The San Francisco Giants walked into Friday’s game against the Atlanta Braves on a five-game winning streak. To make matters that much better for the Giants, they had Kevin Gausman activated for the start after a stint on the COVID-19 list. However, the right-handed pitcher did have an injury scare.

Gausman remained in the game after landing awkwardly while covering first base on a ground ball. He was visited by both manager Gabe Kapler and the trainer, but managed to convince them he was fine to stay put despite just returning from the IL earlier on Friday.

Giants: Kevin Gausman suffers scare during Friday’s game vs. Braves

Gausman managed to pick a full six innings in Atlanta until he was pinch hit for by Alex Dickerson and replaced on the mound by Tony Watson. In his start, Gausman struck out two Braves batters while allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Through 26 games this season, Gausman recorded a 2.49 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, 176 strikeouts and 46 walks over 152.0 innings of work.

Earlier this week, Gausman had been placed on the COVID-19 list due to vaccine side-effects, but was deemed go to go before Friday’s start.

Despite a brief scare on the slip, the Giants seemingly averted a crisis.
