3 Yankees trades to make at the MLB Winter Meetings

The New York Yankees should be looking to make these three trades at the MLB Winter Meetings.

The MLB Winter Meetings are approaching. It’s a chance for the New York Yankees to do something big.

Re-signing Aaron Judge remains priority number one for the Yankees. In addition to inking him and maybe a few other free agents, the possibility of a trade looms.

The Yankees may not have a major blockbuster deal in their arsenal this offseason. This shouldn’t stop them from making any of these three trades that can help bolster the roster.

1) An obvious Yankees trade to make with the Marlins at the Winter Meetings

One of Major League Baseball’s most obvious trades to make this offseason would send Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres to the Miami Marlins for pitcher Pablo Lopez. The deal helps out both squads. It’s a revisit of a rumored deal discussed over the summer.

Torres remains a competent yet flawed big league player. On the Yankees roster, the trouble is fitting all the infielders in. They have DJ LeMahieu to immediately replace him at second base. The rise of Oswald Peraza gives them infield depth whether or not he is the starting shortstop for the team on Opening Day.

The Yankees are situated well with options on the infield. Is it the best plan to have a starter on the bench every game? Instead of holding back LeMahieu or Torres, sending the latter to the Marlins for Lopez makes too much sense.

Among the missing parts on the Marlins roster is someone who can hit for power. They do have Jorge Soler and Avisail Garcia under contract. Unfortunately for the Marlins, neither was productive last season in the revamped outfield.

The Yankees or Marlins might need to add in a prospect to get this deal done. The market for Lopez will determine if it’s New York or Miami who would need to sweeten the deal.
