The Texas Rangers’ top prospects are still a few years away from making their MLB debuts, but there are a few players who can make an impact in 2019.
The Rangers are in need of more pitching with a rotation currently ranking 25th overall in ERA, and with Mike Minor being the only Ranger starter with an ERA below 3.00. Texas was already going into 2019 with some question marks in the rotation, but with Edison Volquez on IL and the combination of Lance Lynn, Drew Smyly and Shelby Miller allowing a combined 35 runs so far, the Rangers are in trouble if they hope to field a competitive team.
The good news is that their offense is in the top 10 of runs scored and runs per game, with Nomar Mazara and Shin-Soo Choo both OPSing over 1.000 on the season. But with Rougned Odor on the IL and Logan Forsyth’s slow start to 2019, the infield could benefit from some depth.
Texas is a hard team to project, but regardless of their team trajectory, the Rangers have a few options in the minors who would make a real impact on the 25-man roster in 2019.
