MLB Power Rankings: Dodgers and Brewers clash while Rangers and Twins surprise

Baseball is still a bit confusing at the moment with the Red Sox below .500, the Twins being one of the hottest teams in the league and the Pirates currently tied for first place in the NL Central. Here are this week’s MLB power rankings.

30. Miami Marlins, 7-16, last place in the NL East (ranked 30th last week)

The Marlins didn’t do anything to shake the label of “worst team in baseball,” losing seven of their last 10 games. They are dead last in runs scored and average runs scored per game, third-worst in home runs and only the Reds have a worse OPS on the year. Miami’s pitching has been about league average but that’s mainly due to Trevor Richards and Caleb Smith and their great starts to the year. Marlins should and will continue to be one of the worst teams in baseball, but Derek Jeter and the Miami front office would still like to see players like Lewis Brinson or Sandy Alcantara take a step forward. So far, that hasn’t happened.

29. Baltimore Orioles, 9-16, last in the AL East (ranked 25th last week)

After a surprising series win over the Red Sox, the Orioles have lost six of their last seven games, being outscored 55-26 coming into Tuesday’s meeting with the White Sox. They own the worst ERA in the Majors, allowing 160 runs to score this season (compared to the 105 Baltimore’s offense has scored); the pitching is the reason they’ve fallen this low in the rankings. The Orioles do have two bright spots in their lineup in outfielders Trey Mancini and Dwight Smith Jr., who have hit six and four home runs, respectively, on the campaign. But being in the bottom-three of both starter and bullpen ERA is reminding everyone that the Orioles only won 47 games last season.
