The New York Yankees are the most illustrious sports franchise ever. Love them, hate them, it’s the truth. Here are 12 players you totally forgot were Yankees.

Babe Ruth. Lou Gehrig. Joe DiMaggio. Mickey Mantle. Derek Jeter. Mariano Rivera. Yogi Berra. It’s an incredible list of players that keeps going.

I just found out five minutes before writing that lede that Mike Lowell played for the 1998 New York Yankees.

This led me to thinking about who else possibly played for the most illustrious franchise of all time that we’ve forgotten about over the years.

The Yankees have 21 numbers retired in Monument Park and 38 plaques, but let’s take a look at which former Yankees got totally snubbed … or forgotten entirely.
