The newest Minnesota Twin wanted to hang out with a popular cardboard cutout.
In 2020, normal summertime activities have been put on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. One destination that many sports fans take in the hotter months of the year are to MLB games. Since fans are prohibited from attending games to curb a spread of COVID-19, some teams have opted to use cardboard cutouts to fill out the seats behind home plate.
Perhaps the most popular cutout on social media is Bernie Lomax from the hit 1989 film, “Weekend at Bernie’s,” seen at Kansas City Royals home games at Kauffman Stadium. On Friday, newest Minnesota Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson posted a photo with Mr. Lomax on Twitter, saying he was going to take him for a walk prior to the start of their weekend series. If we’re being honest, Donaldson is essentially stealing Bernie!
Bernie on the move?
Could the Twins infielder be stealing actor Terry Riser and bringing him to Target Field? Admit it, you’d love to play the game of “Where’s Bernie?” Come on, who wouldn’t want to see Bernie at all 30 MLB ballparks?
Let’s face it, Donaldson and the Twins can basically do whatever they want, as they’re currently 10-3 on the season and hold the AL Central lead over the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox.
Donaldson’s debut with Minnesota hasn’t gone too well, however, as he’s been out of the lineup since last Friday due to right calf tightness. In seven games this season, Donaldson is batting .182 and holds an OPS of .614, while recording one home run, four hits and two runs batted in. But, the good thing is that the Twins have still been winning games without the “Bringer of Rain” on the sidelines.
Let’s put up a wager suggestion for all AL Central teams. Whoever wins the division gets the rights to the Bernie Lomax cutout. Who says no?
