The Dodgers want to avoid an upset against the Brewers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers led MLB with a 43-17 record en route to snagging the No. 1 seed in the National League playoffs. The Milwaukee Brewers finished 29-31 to sneak into the postseason on the final day.
That makes the Dodgers overwhelming favorites to take this best-of-three series beginning Wednesday. However, baseball fans know how unpredictable playoff baseball can be so it is far too early to count the Brewers out.
What to watch for in Dodgers-Brewers Game 1
Walker Buehler gets the start for the Dodgers after going just 1-0 in eight starts during the regular season. He posted a 3.44 ERA and also spent some time on the injured list.
The key for the Dodgers comes down to the stars in the lineup keeping up their great play. Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, and Corey Seager cannot disappear in this series. Bellinger is already a bit of a concern after slashing .239/.333/.455 during the regular season. Justin Turner making his return from injury provides a boost as well.
The Brewers are the underdogs and will look to the bullpen in Game 1. Reliever Brent Suter will open the game after posting a 1.93 ERA in the month of September.
Christian Yelich is going to be the player to watch. He had a down year and hit just .205 with 12 home runs and a .786 OPS. Fans will be looking to him to turn it around and play like he did in 2018 when he won the MVP Award and also helped the Brewers take the Dodgers to seven games in the NLCS.
