Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was stabbed during an altercation in a parking lot in San Diego on Sunday night
Scary news came out of San Diego on Monday as Padres outfielder was Tommy Pham sent to the hospital with a stab wound.
Pham was involved in an altercation on Sunday night, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, and had to receive stitches for a wound on his lower back which “pierced all three layers of skin.”
Acee’s reporting on the incident included some detail:
“According to two people who spoke with Pham, the incident happened when Pham was leaving an establishment and came upon an argument occurring near his car. According to one of the people, an altercation eventually ensued after Pham asked the people involved in the argument, who he did not know, to get away from his car.”
Tommy Pham needed stitches after being stabbed but he should be alright
Pham thanked the medical staff at UC San Diego Health for taking care of him after the stabbing and extended his appreciation to the San Diego Police Department, which is currently searching for the suspects involved.
Fortunately, the outfielder seems to have come away from the incident without any serious damage, though Annie Heilbrunn of the Union-Tribune tweeted it could easily have been worse.
“While it was a very traumatic and eye-opening experience for me, I’m on the road to recovery and I know I’ll be back to my offseason training routine in no time,” Pham said in his statement.
Pham is relatively new to San Diego. He was traded to the Padres at the end of 2019 and was part of the team’s run to the playoffs this season. He had nine hits in 24 plate appearances in the postseason.
