Randy Arozarena won’t be charged after reaching agreement with ex-partner

Tampa Bay Rays star Randy Arozarena was released from Mexico’s Yucatan state days after arrest.

On Tuesday, troubling news came out of the Tampa Bay Rays camp in regards to star player Randy Arozarena. The young outfielder was detained in Mexico’s Yucatan state following an alleged domestic violence incident where he was accused of attempting to take his daughter from her mother and assaulted his ex-partner’s father.

Well on Thursday, Arozarena was released from custody and will not face any charges after reaching a settlement with his child’s mother, per Victor Alvarez of ESPN. Arozarena was originally slated to have a hearing on Thanksgiving, but with both sides reaching an agreement, it was canceled.

It’s unknown if Arozarena was formally charged of a crime

According to John Romano of the Tampa Bay Times, Arozarena was not charged with a crime after a judge determined there was insufficient evidence available to pursue a lawsuit. Arozarena was unavailable for comment after his release.

The news came as a shock to the baseball world, because we are weeks removed from his impressive postseason run with the Rays. In 20 postseason games with the Rays, Arozarena slashed .377/.442/.831 with 29 hits, 19 runs scored and 14 RBI. Arozarena was named ALCS MVP for his performance against the Houston Astros and broke the record for the most home runs in a single postseason with 10.

With no charges being pursued against Arozarena, he will now likely focus on getting ready for the upcoming MLB season. As for the Rays, they will continue to retool with their roster and may have to make some very tough decisions, particularly in regards to one of their stars.
