Per a report, the Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms on a new deal with free-agent reliever Yusmeiro Petit.
Some great news has arrived for the Oakland Athletics on Sunday night. That news is that veteran right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit isn’t going anywhere. The reliever was testing the free-agent market, but the two sides were able to work out a new contract.
On top of that, the Athletics have also agreed to a new deal with fellow free-agent reliever Sergio Romo. Talk bout a great night of signings for the AL West club, which is hoping to repeat as AL Champs this season.
The Athletics have signed relievers Sergio Romo and Yusmeiro Petit
Starting off with Petit, he joined the Athletics back in 2018 and has been a great option coming out of the bullpen. Petit went 2-1 during the shortened 2020 campaign and recorded an impressive 1.66 ERA in 26 appearances.
The year before, he went 5-3 with a 2.71 ERA. Those are the kinds of stats that will surely bring a smile to A’s fans’ faces, especially knowing he’ll be back on the bump for the team this spring.
As for Romo, he’s getting ready to play in his 14th MLB season. After starting off his career with the San Francisco Giants, the righty has suited up for the Dodgers, Rays and Twins. During his playing days, Romo has posted a 41-34 record and a 2.95 ERA.
Last season with the Twins, he appeared in 24 games and had a bit of a concerning 4.05 ERA. However, the man is known for coming into tight spots and getting out of jams. He’s been able to do that consistently throughout his career and the A’s will be hoping more of that can continue now that he’s headed back to California.
