MLB Twitter goes insane over ridiculously expensive Fernando Tatis Jr. extension.
Fernando Tatis, Jr. had one heck of a 2020 season with the San Diego Padres and the team proved on Wednesday just how much they wanted to recreate that magic going forward. The Padres reportedly inked a deal with the shortstop for a massive 14-year, $340 million contract extension.
And Twitter went absolutely bonkers when the news broke.
Many wondered how the team could afford such a hefty contract … we’re wondering that too.
Others were just happy with news.
Others were less than impressed with the news.
Fernando Tatis Jr. just turned 22 in January
Tatis just turned 22 in January and it’s safe to say this might be the best birthday present he’s ever had. The silly part is … he’s only been in the MLB for two years and still hasn’t played the equivalent of a full season.
Tatis Jr. finished fourth in National League MVP voting in 2020 and had a batting average of .277 in the shortened season, due to COVID-19. He was thrust into the spotlight after the controversial grand slam that saw most of the MLB stand behind him.
