The home plate umpire from the Marlins-Mets game came out and admitted he made a huge mistake in giving New York the win on Thursday.
What an ending we had on Thursday between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets. In stunning fashion, New York walked things off after an Anthony Bass pitch, with the bases juiced, hit Michael Conforto.
However, Conforto clearly leaned over in the strike zone on that pitch. Yet somehow, he was given first base and a run scored to give the Mets the victory. Shortly after that controversial play, home plate umpire Ron Kulpa has come out and said he made a mistake and Conforto should have actually been called out. What a total joke.

“The guy was hit by a pitch in the strike zone,” Kulpa said on Thursday after the contest. “I should have called him out.”
If you’re Marlins manager Don Mattingly, you’ve got to be absolutely furious with Kulpa’s explanation. It was clear as day that Conforto leaned over to get hit by the pitch. He was rewarded for his decision and the Mets took home the victory.
With the loss, Miami is now 1-6 on the year. With that said, it really feels like this victory for the Mets was gifted to them. Kulpa admitting that he totally blew it isn’t going to make the Marlins happy. They were in a position to win a game and that opportunity was stolen from them. Imagine late in the season if Miami misses the postseason because of this result. Then, what would Kulpa have to say for himself?
This was an awful blunder and one that shouldn’t happen again. You’ve simply got to feel for Miami right now.
