New York Mets superstar Pete Alonso is now the proud owner of his very own burger at Citi Field and it’s nothing short of amazing.
You know you’re an absolute rockstar all over New York City when you have a food item named after you, or your picture hung up at the Katz Deli in the Lower East Side.
For Mets slugger Pete Alonso, he’s now the proud owner of his very owner burger named after him. Seriously.
Newsday announced the Polar Burger is now for sale at Citi Field in Flushing. According to the story, the burger consists of a Pat LaFrieda’s black truffle blended burger patty, maple-spiced caramelized onions, smoked gouda cheese topped with lettuce, tomato and claw sauce on a baked brioche bun.
Pete Alonso has his very own ‘Polar Burger’ for sale at Citi Field
Talk about letting a player know he’s beloved by fans. Not everyone has the honor of having their own burger available for people to enjoy. Now, for a cool $16.50, anyone who makes their way to the stadium to watch their beloved Mets in action can chow down a Polar Burger and show their love for Alonso.
“I hope that fans really take to this and I really hope that these things sell out every single game,” Alonso said, “because, I mean, they’re damn good.”
The stud first baseman has been a fan favorite since breaking out onto the scene in 2019. That year, Alonso played in the All-Star Game and took home NL Rookie of the Year honors after belting a mind-blowing 53 homers and adding 120 RBI. Those are the kinds of numbers most players dare not even dream of.
Since then, he’s been a massive part of the Mets puzzle, with the club hoping to make some serious noise in the NL East this season. Entering Wednesday’s game with the Cardinals, the club is 11-12 on the year and 0.5 games back of the Phillies for the division lead. Should New York go on to win the NL East, Alonso will obviously play a big role in that happening. He’ll certainly enjoy a Polar Burger or two to celebrate.
