Shohei Ohtani showed no remorse towards Jose Altuve on such a dirty strikeout.
Ohtani is on a roll on the mound, lowering his ERA to. 2.28 (so far) with a solid outing in Houston on Tuesday night. While he has a ways to go to match the great Babe Ruth, he’s matching records not previously seen since, well, the Babe.
Facing the great Jose Altuve in the batter’s box, Ohtani fanned the 5-foot-7 leadoff hitter with a savage slider, which broke into the zone at a startling rate. It left Altuve completely helpless.
While initially looking as though it would remain inside, Ohtani’s pitch broke back towards the middle of the plate, but at an unhittable pace.
Shohei Ohtani has been on his game all night in Houston
While not against Altuve on this particular pitch overlay, we’re going to have to cut the Astros some slack considering Ohtani is officially on one Tuesday night.
So far, so good in terms of Joe Maddon employing Ohtani. The creative manager never fails to put his assets in the best position to succeed, and Ohtani is no different. While his long-term health remains a question mark as the season progresses, for now there’s no denying the experiment is working.
