Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are continuing the ridiculous play trend (Video)

The Pittsburgh Pirates were the beneficiaries of a ridiculous error on Saturday, courtesy of Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz.

Back on Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates were the brunt of jokes for their unfathomable series of fielding errors when facing the Chicago Cubs. Just two days later, and the Pirates had a ridiculous mistake work to their favor!

During the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies, pitcher Austin Gomber issued a walk to Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds in the bottom of the third inning. Upon catching ball four, catcher Elias Diaz decided to throw it to third baseman Joshua Fuentes. The thing is, the ball flew over Fuentes’ reach and into left field, allowing Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier o easily score, giving Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead.

Pirates benefit on Rockies catcher Elias Diaz’ error on Saturday

All Diaz had to do was hold onto the baseball, since it was a walk. Instead, he threw a ball into the outfield and allowed the Pirates to score an easy run.

Pirates rookie first baseman Will Craig’s error in Thursday’s game against the Cubs is now in the rearview mirror following this blunder by Diaz, who joins him on the blooper reel. Speaking of, Craig did hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning in Pittsburgh’s 4-0 win.

Not only do the Rockies have to hear about this error, they also have to deal with the fact that they lost both games of the doubleheader and were shutout 11-0 on the day. Not a great Saturday for the Rockies.
