Injury ruins Jacob deGrom’s elite performance against Padres

Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was dealing against the Padres, but he had to leave the game with a hip injury that’ll have New York concerned.

The Mets have had to deal with more injuries than they’d ever hope for in 2021. The most concerning yet may have just arrived.

Star pitcher Jacob deGrom had to leave Friday’s game against the Padres with right flexor tendonitis, according to’s Anthony DiComo.

deGrom was having an outstanding night. He pitched six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. He was working on a no-hitter until the fifth inning.

An injury could stop Jacob deGrom’s impressive season in its tracks

This isn’t the first time deGrom has had an injury get in the way of what has been an excellent season. He was on the injured list in May with tightness in his lower back and side. He was out for two weeks before returning to form by the end of the month.

This season, deGrom has been on another level. He’s 5-2 with a ridiculous ERA of 0.62. That’s the lowest ERA through 10 starts in MLB history. He’s actually driven in more runs than he’s allowed earned runs.

With that kind of dominance, it’s easy to see why this injury would be of huge concern for the Mets.
