St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has once again delivered for the team, hitting a walk-off single to record a sweep over the Miami Marlins.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but Yadier Molina is the hero for the St. Louis Cardinals. Indeed, with the game on the line against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, the veteran backstop stepped up to the dish and came through in the clutch for his side.
With runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth inning, Molina hammered a single to left field to give the Cards a 1-0 win. This is the second-straight walk-off for the club. More importantly, it also closed the door on a three-game sweep of Miami. You’ve got to love seeing this.
Yadier Molina gave the Cardinals a thrilling win over the Marlins on Wednesday
Molina’s big-time hit comes less than 24 hours after Paul Goldschmidt walked things off against Miami on Tuesday night with a solo blast. These three wins came at a crucial time for the club too, as they were 32-33 heading into the new week.
Now, though, St. Louis is 35-33 and only 3.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central standings. Just like that, the Cards are in the division race. As for Molina, this guy just can’t stop creating magic for his club. Reports swirled he was potentially going to head elsewhere this past offseason.
Instead, St. Louis was able to bring him back on a one-year deal. The Cards supporters were jacked up with that monster news, and plays like the one he made against Miami is why millions were so happy to welcome him back to town. He’s a true club legend, and nothing will ever change that.
