Chicago Cubs superstar Javier Baez continues to dazzle for the club, smashing a 2-run homer into the apple at Citi Field against the New York Mets.
Shortstop Javier Baez is always ready to put on a show whenever he’s at the dish or in the field for the Chicago Cubs. That continued on Thursday night at Citi Field in a showdown with the New York Mets.
Facing stud hurler Marcus Stroman, Baez took the Long Island native for a ride, belting a 2-run homer. To make things even sweeter for Baez, the home-run ball went straight for the infamous apple in Flushing.
Javy Baez belting a 2-run homer into the apple at Citi Field was awesome to see
That one was a no-doubter, with Stroman making a massive mistake with that pitch. He basically sent Baez a toss right down the middle, which he of course made him pay for. On the year, Baez is hitting .232, with 15 homers and 42 RBI.
That kind of a blast is something Cubs fans have grown so used to seeing from Baez. With the standout infielder playing so well, and others stepping up too, Chicago is in the middle of a big-time NL Central battle with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Entering Thursday’s tilt, the two squads were tied at the top of the division standings with their equal 38-30 records. Don’t forget about the Cardinals here, either, as they’re only three games back.
The rest of this spring and summer, Baez will be ready to do all he can to help Chicago take Milwaukee and St. Louis down. If he continues to record homers like the one we saw against the Mets, the Cubs sure will be in a strong position to do so. With the team also expected to be aggressive ahead of the MLB trade deadline, some big news could be on the way for this club.
