The Toronto Blue Jays overcame a 7-4 deficit by scoring six runs with just one out remaining in the ninth inning during Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Toronto Blue Jays had themselves an eventful game against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Earlier on, the benches cleared after Orioles third baseman Maikel Franco was hit by a pitch from Alek Manoah. Certainly there could not be more excitement, right? The Blue Jays would like to have a word.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Blue Jays found themselves down 7-4 with two runners on base and one out remaining in the game. That was no problem for Toronto, as they scored six runs in the top of the frame to eventually win 10-7!
Blue Jays score six unanswered runs to defeat Orioles 10-7 on Saturday
The runs started after Marcus Semien knocked in a run on a bases loaded walk. Then, shortstop Bo Bichette increased the damage to Baltimore’s imploding bullpen by knocking a two-RBI single to right field to tie the game at seven runs apiece. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gave the Blue Jays the lead on a two-RBI double. Toronto’s final run of the inning came on an RBI single from Randal Grichuk.
After walking Pat Valaika, Blue Jays pitcher Jordan Romano ended the bottom of the ninth by striking out Cedric Mullins and Freddy Galvis and forcing Trey Mancini to ground out. As a result of their phenomenal ninth inning, the Blue Jays ended their five-game losing streak.
Prior to the bullpen imploding, the Orioles enjoyed a strong performance from Ryan Mountcastle, who hit three homers and accounted for four of Baltimore’s seven runs.
The Blue Jays and Orioles will do battle on Sunday afternoon to take the third and final game of the weekend series.
