Some MLB Trade Rumors Padres fans heard last year are creeping their way back into the conversation.
With the MLB trade deadline a little over a month away, now is the time for teams to start seriously putting out feelers on potential deals.
For the San Diego Padres, who are currently among the betting favorites to win the NL West, making a deal at the deadline would be a case of the rich getting richer. Already the Padres have traded their way into a roster of top-shelf talent like Fernando Tatis Jr., Blake Snell, and Yu Darvish, and it sounds like they have the appetite for one more world-beating move.
If you’ve heard that the Padres are interested in Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo, it’s because the rumor isn’t new. It is, however, a rumor that has already been circled back to once. With the deadline approaching and the Padres looking for ways the team can continue to bury the Dodgers, rounding home on finally trading for Gallo seems like something that is in the best interest of a World Series contender.
MLB Trade Rumors Padres ‘particularly interested’ in Joey Gallo
According to The Athletic’s Dennis Lin, the Padres were ‘particularly interested’ in Gallo just a few weeks ago and that interest is likely to increase the closer to the trade deadline gets.
Lin isn’t reporting that a deal is happening, nor is anyone else, but the writing is on more than just the internet walls. San Deigo was trying to trade for Gallo at last year’s deadline but ended up unwilling to include a package centered on either CJ Abrams or Luis Patino to make it happen.
The Rangers are expected to be sellers at the deadline, which plays in favor of the Padres being able to swing a deal. Gallo is among players such as Kyle Gibson and others who could be moved to contenders as Texas continues its plummet to the bottom of the AL West.
