Some unfortunate news has arrived for the San Francisco Giants, as pitching prospect Gregory Santos has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing drugs.
While it’s been nothing short of a phenomenal campaign thus far for the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants, some bad news came in on Tuesday. That’s because hard-throwing righty Gregory Santos, currently in Triple-A, has been suspended for 80 games.
The hurler tested positive for Stanozolol, which led to the breaking news of his suspension. Santos was on the 40-man active roster, but he’ll now begin his suspension effective immediately.

This only adds to what’s been an incredibly frustrating year for Santos. He’s 0-2 on the year with the Giants, posting a 22.50 ERA. That’s not a typo, folks. Santos has appeared in three games this year for San Francisco, lasting only three innings. In that small amount of work, he’s given up five hits and five earned runs.
We don’t have to tell you that’s been a major eye-opener for skipper Gabe Kapler to see. With Santos struggling so much, the move of sending him down to Triple-A Sacramento sure was an easy one for the club to make. The hope was that he’d be able to get himself back into a groove and help this team later this summer or in the fall.
Instead, Santos has been caught red-handed and won’t be available for the next 80 games. San Francisco is in first place in the division over the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the team ready to make some serious noise in the postseason. Unfortunately for Santos, he’ll be nowhere near the club come the playoffs, as his bad decision in trying to cheat has certainly cost him big time.
