The Chicago White Sox are reportedly interested in Trevor Story, and here are three prospects they could offer for the Rockies shortstop.
In the final year of his contract, it’s the worst-kept secret in baseball that the Colorado Rockies will be trading Trevor Story. But over the holiday weekend a surprising suitor surfaced, with USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reporting the Chicago White Sox have “serious interest” in the All-Star shortstop.
The White Sox already have an All-Star-caliber shortstop in Tim Anderson, so Story doesn’t seem to fit. But an idea would be to move Story over to second base, where the Pale Hose do have a hole with Nick Madrigal (hamstring) out for the season. They have been rumored to have interest in Diamondbacks infielder Eduardo Escobar and Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier, in an effort to fill that void.
Even as a possible (or even likely for the White Sox) rental, the cost to get Story will be high. A couple higher-end prospects will be a start.
However, with Tony La Russa as manager, the White Sox are in a natural win-now window. So the cost in prospects to get anyone, Story or someone else, is probably a cost GM Rick Hahn will willingly pay.

Andrew Vaughn

The third-overall pick in the 2019 draft, Vaughn may have made his major league debut in 2020 under normal circumstances. Entering Monday, with a five-game hitting streak going, he has a .245/.313/.427 slash-line with eight home runs, 16 doubles and 22 RBI over 249 plate appearances.
It’s hard to envision the White Sox trading Vaughn at such an early stage in his career. But it’s noteworthy his name has surfaced as someone who could be sent to the Pirates for Adam Frazier. The word “could” has a wide-ranging meaning, but assuming Jon Heyman’s sources are solid there’s some percentage chance the White Sox are open to trading Vaughn. And if they’d do it to get Frazier, they’d certainly do it to get Story.
Call this one very unlikely, but not impossible. And yes, Vaughn still qualifies as a prospect.
