Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Luis Urias wasted no time in taking Jacob deGrom for a ride on Thursday in the top of the first.
Believe it or not, Jacob deGrom isn’t perfect after all. The New York Mets ace made that much clear on Wednesday afternoon going up against the Milwaukee Brewers, the club which is in first place of the NL Central.
To start things off, third baseman Luis Urias stepped up to the plate with no fear in his eyes. You think he was going to let deGrom intimidate him? Not a chance. On a 2-1 count, deGrom made quite the mistake and Urias made him pay for it.
Luis Urias hitting a leadoff homer against Jacob deGrom is something no one expected
Urias got a pitch right where he liked it and he left the ball park. Talk about a big-time leadoff homer for the Brewers. Entering the tilt, deGrom had a 7-2 record and a truly stunning 0.95 ERA. However, as good as he’s been, Urias was quick to remind us that he’s bound to make a mistake here or there.
With deGrom pitching at such a high level, he’s helped the Mets to first place in the NL East, while he’s also considered among the favorites to take home the NL MVP honor. Meanwhile for the Brewers, they’ve also been superb, as Milwaukee is 51-35 on the year and up 6.5 games on the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central standings.
Both these clubs are hoping to make plenty of noise in the postseason. Should they face off, Milwaukee will have the confidence of knowing they can get to deGrom whenever he’s on the bump. Urias did just that and in impressive fashion over at Citi Field.
