New York Mets second baseman Travis Blankenhorn just belted a 3-run bomb for his first-career home and it came just when the team needed it.
This is a moment 24-year-old second baseman Travis Blankenhorn will never forget for the New York Mets. While things couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start for New York, once trailing 6-0, we’ve got a ball game again.
That’s because with two runners on base in the top of the fourth inning, Blankenhorn got a pitch right in his wheelhouse and sent it to the stands. To make it even better, this is actually Blankenhorn’s first-career dinger.

In the blink of an eye, the Mets deficit was cut to 6-4. Regardless of how this one turns out, you know Blankenhorn will never forget this moment. There’s truly nothing quite like getting the monkey off your back and smashing your first big-league homer.
This means so much to him and his entire family. On Sunday, the contest really couldn’t have gotten started much worse for New York, as starter Taijuan Walker gave up six runs in the bottom of the first inning. He only recorded one out before Luis Rojas decided his day was done.
Slowly but surely, however, the Mets are clawing their way back into this one. If they do pull things off and record a great comeback win, Blankenhorn will surely deserve plenty of the credit. His blast Came at the right time for New York.
After being claimed by the Mets in early June, Blankenhorn was hoping to show fans the kind of impact he can make for this team. Sunday’s dinger could be the first of many for him in a New York uniform.
