MLB Twitter lost its mind over blockbuster Max Scherzer and Trea Turner trade

MLB Twitter lost its mind after seeing the Los Angeles Dodgers being close to acquiring Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have shown in recent years that they are not afraid to flex their farm system to help them make a push for the World Series. The Dodgers already acquired pitcher Danny Duffy from the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, but they were far from satisfied.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan dropped the bombshell news that the Dodgers were finalizing a deal to acquire starting pitcher Max Scherzer and shortstop Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals in exchange for a huge haul of prospects.

MLB Twitter, as is always the case, shared their immediate reactions upon seeing Scherzer and Turner land in Hollywood.

What did it take for the Dodgers to not only steal Scherzer from the Padres, but to also land their potential shortstop of the future in Turner? According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers are trading catcher Keibert Ruiz (No. 1 prospect), right-handed pitcher Josiah Gray (No. 2 prospect) and two mid-range prospects. Yeah, we can not fault the Nationals for taking that dea. Come on, they got two of Los Angeles’ top prospects!

The Dodgers are currently in a three-way competition alongside the San Francisco Giants and Padres for first-place in the NL West. In all likelihood, all three teams will clinch postseason berths at the end of the season. What has made things difficult for the Dodgers is the variety of injuries  across the roster since the start of the 2021 season. Now imagine the Dodgers at full health with Scherzer and Turner added to the roster. That is a scary thought.

With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the Dodgers let the rest of the league know that they do not plan to give up the Commissioner’s Trophy that easily. If anything, they may have an iron grip on the  World Series title.
