Red Sox adding Kyle Schwarber in deal with the Nationals

The Boston Red Sox aren’t letting their rivals have all the trade deadline fun, grabbing left fielder Kyle Schwarber in a deal with the Nationals.

The Boston Red Sox have entered the fray with the MLB trade deadline approaching.

On Thursday night, Boston reached an agreement to land Schwarber from the Washington Nationals, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

Red Sox fans may have to wait some time before they see Schwarber take the field at Fenway, though. He’s been on the injured list with a hamstring problem since the start of July.

If he returns playing at the same level as he was before the All-Star break, Boston will have serious power added to its lineup. The lefty blasted 25 home runs while batting .253/.340/.570 with a career-best OPS of .910 before his injury.

Boston will need to figure out where the best spot for Schwarber is in the lineup. He’s primarily a left fielder, which is where Alex Verdugo plays. He’s also listed as a catcher, for what it’s worth.

It would be helpful if Schwarber had experience playing first base since that’s Boston’s greatest position of need. The fact that he doesn’t fill that role suggests the Red Sox aren’t finished with trades just yet this year.

The Red Sox are getting Kyle Schwarber for prospect Aldo Ramirez

According to Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post, the Red Sox are sending pitcher Aldo Ramirez to Washington to complete the deal. Ramirez is the 19th-ranked prospect in the organization.

The Nationals are loading up on prospects ahead of the trade deadline. They’re on the verge of completing a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In exchange for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, Washington is getting four of LA’s prospects, including their No. 1 and No. 2, Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray.
