MLB Rumors: Yankees, Red Sox interested in Kyle Schwarber trade

Kyle Schwarber has been added to the MLB Trade Rumors heap, and it sounds like he won’t have to travel far to join his new team.

One team’s fire sale is another team’s bargain shopping.

Despite initially deflecting the idea of being buyers at the MLB Trade Deadline, the New York Yankees are now zeroing in on two trades in less than 24 hours.

New York’s swap for Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo isn’t yet official but Aaron Boone has gone as far as to welcome Gallo to the clubhouse. The Yankees aren’t stopping with just one slugger, though, as it appears they have their eyes set on adding another.

Over in Washington, the Nationals are trying to find the right deal for Max Scherzer but are looking to deal another player on its roster as well. Kyle Schwarber is on the IL right now, but

According to New York Post insider Joel Sherman, Kyle Schwarber is expected to not only be traded but be moved before the end of the day on Thursday.

“Growing belief is that Kyle Schwarber gets traded as early as today. Hear that Yankees are interested. Schwarber is currently on the IL with a hamstring injury. RedSox, Blue Jays also believed interested,” Sherman reported on Thursday.

In a separate but likely related rumor, YES Network’s Jack Curry reports that the Yankees are fielding offers for slugger Luke Voit.

Whenever Curry reports something on the Yankees, he’s usually right. It’s not hard to connect the dots between the Yankees oft-injured first baseman and the desire to add Schwarber to the lineup.

Voit is perfectly fine, but Schwarber is a much better piece for the Yankees. It would also be the second All-Star that the Yankees add at the deadline, as Joey Gallo was also selected to the All-Star Game this year, albeit for the American League.
