Yankees lose another star to COVID-19 with Gary Sanchez positive

Rough news has come in for the New York Yankees, as it was just announced that catcher Gary Sanchez has tested positive for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 outbreak continues to get worse for Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees. On Thursday afternoon, it was announced that catcher Gary Sanchez is the latest player to test positive for the virus.

The news of Sanchez’s positive tests comes hours before the Yankees are set to begin a crucial series with the Seattle Mariners. Both teams are in the Wild Card hunt, and New York is hoping to make a statement. They’ll have to do so without Sanchez behind the dish.

The news of Sanchez’s positive tests comes after both Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery also tested positive. Cole missed his start earlier this week and was replaced on the bump by Luis Gil. Gil went on to have a brilliant showing and the Yanks took down the Orioles.

As for Sanchez, he’s now away from the club for at least the next 10 days due to MLB COVID-19 protocols. This is also of course the case for Cole and Montgomery. Boone can now only hope that no other players have picked up the virus.

New York has been incredibly inconsistent this year, but the team appears to be turning a bit of a corner. The clubhouse has also welcomed Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo, with Rizzo really turning heads with some sweet dingers.

For now, the Bronx Bombers will have to move forward without Sanchez for a little while. The slugger will miss some action, but hope to get back as soon as possible with the hunt for the postseason in full swing.
