Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays

Blue Jays-Tigers game paused by umps in dumbest rain delay of all-time

The showdown between the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers had a rain delay of only four minutes which is insanity.

History undoubtedly had to be made on Sunday in the series finale between the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers. With the rain starting to fall in the Motor City, the umpires decided to pause play.

However, the rain delay quite literally lasted less than five minutes. Seriously, by the time fans made their way to the concessions to grab a hot dog or a beer, play was already resuming. Why pause the game in the first place if the conditions weren’t even that bad? This is comical.

It was barely even drizzling in Detroit, yet the umps indeed brought out the tarp and called for play to stop. Truly unreal. The Blue Jays are hoping to record another important win, as the team still has hopes of potentially grabbing a Wild Card spot and play some extra baseball in the fall.

Entering play on Sunday, Detroit is 62-68 on the campaign and they’re not even close to sniffing postseason baseball. Yet, there’s hope on the horizon.

The club was just able to celebrate watching Miguel Cabrera hit the 500th homer of his career. He’s meant so much to the organization for so many years and that dinger sure was special.

As for Sunday’s contest, we can only hope there are no more delays before things come to a close. Oh and if it starts to lightly rain again, let’s hold off on rushing the tarp out onto the field. Give us a break.
