Josh Donaldson swaps jerseys with Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. in MVP moment

2015 AL MVP and former Toronto Blue Jay Josh Donaldson swaps jerseys on Sunday with his MVP pick, Blue Jay first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

While many in the MLB world believe Shohei Ohtani is likely to become the AL MVP, it didn’t stop Josh Donaldson from sharing an MVP moment with his pick: Toronto Blue Jay first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Now a third baseman with the Minnesota Twins, baseball’s Bringer of Rain signed and swapped jerseys with an AL MVP candidate who has been gaining traction.

While the MVP award is up for debate, the Jays crowd chanted “MVP!” as they enjoyed the moment between the two Toronto legends.

Toronto Blue Jay Vladmir Guerrero Jr. could win Triple Crown and MVP in 2021

Guerrero Jr. is enjoying a historic season with the Blue Jays in every sense of the word: he just might be the second player to win the Triple Crown in the past 53 seasons.

The Triple Crown, which consists of maintaining the top batting average, most home runs and best RBI total, is something Guerrero Jr. is already leading in two categories. All he must do is emerge from his fourth place in RBIs and the award is his.

However, even if Guerrero Jr. wins that coveted Triple Crown, he isn’t expected to win MVP unless the Blue Jays make the playoffs. The current front-runner for the MVP trophy is Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter. But with only two weeks left in the regular season, Donaldson made a strong case as to why Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has made more of an impact with the Jays than Ohtani has with the Angels.

“To me, Vlad on a day-to-day basis has affected more games,” Donaldson said in a Toronto Sun interview before Saturday’s game against the Jays. “That to me, makes you most valuable.

“They have a nice lineup, but without Vlad in that lineup, this isn’t the same team. And that makes a big difference.”
