For the first time in 140 seasons, Cardinals did something unprecedented

The St. Louis Cardinals winning streak has officially become historic after a 15th-straight win following a win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

With 15 straight wins, the St. Louis Cardinals may not break the Top 30 of all-time MLB win streaks, but they are making history all their own in St. Louis.

For the first time in their 140 years of existence, the Cardinals have gone from an outside NL East contender to a second-place slate destined for October playoffs with 15 straight wins, the longest win streak in franchise history.

St. Louis Cardinals winning streak makes history with win over Cubs

The impressive win streak is slowly whittling down the Cardinals’ magic number, which went from six to four in a matter of days. A Saturday win over the Cubs puts the Cardinals at 86 wins, giving them a magic number of 2 over the Cincinnati Reds.

The declining magic number and the win streak is indicative of a Cardinals team that has turned around their season in incredible fashion.

The Cardinals have not lost a game since Sept. 10, when they took on the Cincinnati Reds and lost 4-2.

The MLB world has marveled over how remarkably the team has turned around its season in less than a month.

Ben Fredrickson for the St. Louis Post Dispatch wrote about how a dominant Cardinals team makes September feel how it should in St. Louis.

“For a while, the Cardinals were just a rare NL wild-card candidate that was refusing to self destruct,” wrote Fredrickson on Sept. 18. “Now they are playing some of the best baseball you can find. The combination has saved September. This is how it’s supposed to be.”

Since then, the Cardinals have gone from a six-game win streak to 15, spelling out a hopeful future for an NL East team that turned it around in the last stretch of the season.

The Cardinals have seven games remaining, four of them being against the Chicago Cubs they just defeated three times in a row.

If the streak continues, the Cardinals will make their 31st playoff appearance and could win their 12th championship for St. Louis.
