Giancarlo Stanton tossed his bat back to the Bronx after another home run in Boston

New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton sent his bat into orbit after hitting a home run during Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Yankees were tied in the standings with the Boston Red Sox entering Sunday night, and a victory would give them not only the three-game series-sweep, but sole possession of the top Wild Card spot. If there was one player on the Yankees that burned the Red Sox, it was outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

24 hours after hitting a monstrous grand slam, Stanton hit a two-run home run off Red Sox reliever Adam Ottavino in the top of the eighth inning to extend the Yankees’ lead to 6-3. Not only did Stanton send the baseball over the Green Monster of Fenway Park, but he almost sent his bat back to Yankee Stadium.

Giancarlo Stanton helps give Yankees 6-3 win over Red Sox

We mean, was it really a coincidence that the fire alarms at Fenway Park went off when Stanton stepped up to the plate earlier in the game?

The Yankees took the lead earlier in the inning after a two-run double by star outfielder Aaron Judge. That is when Stanton sent home Judge with his two-run shot over the Green Monster. Aroldis Chapman closed out the game to secure the 6-3 win and the weekend sweep over their AL East rivals.

This may very well not be the final time these two teams meet this season. There is always the chance that they meet up in the one-game Wild Card playoff. That is, if one or both of the teams does not collapse in the final week of the regular-season.
