The New York Yankees avoided complete disaster, winning their final game of the season to cement a place in the Wild Card game.
Aaron Judge played the role of hero, hitting a line drive that deflected off of the pitcher’s hand, slowing it just enough for the winning run to score.
New York had just one hit entering the inning, offering little hope for the home fans minus an incredible catch for Gio Urshela to end the seventh inning. Urshela’s Jeter moment wasn’t for naught, and the Yankees live to fight another day.
Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have come up large in recent weeks, and it’s fighting that one of the Yankees big boppers secured the hit that will send them to the playoffs.
When is the AL Wild Card game?
The Wild Card game will either be played on Tuesday should the Red Sox defeat the Washington Nationals, or at a later date. We don’t yet know the final scores of Boston-Washington, or the Blue Jays-Orioles game. Toronto looks as though they’ll hold on, while the Seattle Mariners are likely to fall to the Los Angeles Angels, thus ending their season.
