Yankees rumors: MLB insider thinks Corey Seager lands in the Bronx

One MLB insider sees Los Angeles Dodgers star Corey Seager playing for the New York Yankees.

During his radio hit on The Michael Kay Show, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan dropped an absolute bombshell: He forecasts Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager to go to the New York Yankees in his free agency.

Since the Bronx Bombers have not won an AL pennant in over a decade now, they are once again expected to be big spenders in free agency. While it will cost a team like New York well over $300 million to procure the services of a player like Seager, perhaps he will be the type of player that will get the Yankees back on top and into the World Series? He may come, but he will not come cheap.

How does adding a player of Seager’s caliber change the trajectory of the Yankees in the 2020s?

Yankees rumors: Corey Seager could find himself in pinstripes for $300 million

Though adding Seager would certainly make the Yankees better, it would not be a panacea to what ails them. The Yankees have been big spenders throughout much of their illustrious history. While it works out for them sometimes, they have had to eat one bad contract after another when swinging for the fences. The great news is Seager is in his prime and still on the good side of 30.

Adding Seager in free agency means Gleyber Torres will no longer be the Yankees’ starting shortstop. It may also prevent the Yankees from being serious contenders to re-sign Anthony Rizzo in his high-profile free agency. The good news is New York still has their other marquee piece acquired at the trade deadline still arbitration eligible in left-handed slugger Joey Gallo.

With Passan linking Seager to New York this confidently, the MLB insider must know something.
